After serving 12 years on the Board of The Kravis Center for the Performing Arts, Mark Levy and Joseph Sanches will be awarded the designation of Life Trustee, beginning July 1, 2021. "Their leadership and business expertise has contributed immensely to the overall success of Palm Beach County's cultural crown jewel. The Kravis Center is honored to have their continued involvement and guidance as Life Trustees," said Jeffrey Stoops, Kravis Center Board Chairman. Mr. Levy and Mr. Sanches were awarded special Tiffany & Co. pentastars honoring their dedication and service to the Kravis Center. As Life Trustees, they will continue to serve on various committees for the Center.

Touchdown D. Stephenson: Historic Miramar Public Safety Complex!
April 20, 2021
DSC recently celebrated the completion and unveiling of the new Historic Miramar Public Safety Complex during the ribbon-cutting ceremony and tour on April 13. Located at 6920 SW 35th St., the 24,000SF LEED building will serve as a police substation featuring Crime Scene and Property units, Dive Team Operations, SWAT Team Logistics and a Community Room that can be used by residents. The substation will also be used by patrol officers working in East Historical Miramar.

2017 Distinguished Black Business of the Year

Let's Celebrate, Fire Station No. 8! We are pleased to announce, D. Stephenson Construction has been selected as the Construction Manager for the new West Palm Beach fire station which will contain three bays and will house living and working quarters for two full crews and contain an exercise room, workshop, decontamination room and other typical facilities associated with fire stations. The floor area of this station is anticipated to be approximately 10,000SF.

Riviera Beach Marina Village

Riviera Beach Marina Village came to fruition thanks to support from a wide variety of partners including the Riviera Beach Community Redevelopment Agency, the City of Riviera Beach, Viking Developers, Palm Beach County, and lending partners at BB&T Bank, KeyBank, and the National Development Council. Small and Minority Business Enterprise goals for this project exceeded expectations thanks to the diligent effort of D. Stephenson Construction!

DSC Names Joseph Sanches President

D. Stephenson Construction Inc., the largest African American-owned general contracting firm in Florida, announced the appointment of Joseph Sanches as the company’s new president. Sanches has been with the firm for almost three years, previously serving as executive vice president. Prior to joining the company, Sanches was chief of support operations for the Palm Beach County School District, where he oversaw more than $2 billion in capital improvements. He is also credited with leading Palm Beach County School District's focus on sustainable design and construction, which helped earn him a place on the National Board of Directors for the U.S. Green Building Council. Sanches also sits on several other boards, including the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts and Pine Jog Environmental Education Center. He earned a bachelor’s degree in construction management from Pratt Institute and a master’s degree in business administration from Baruch College. He is a LEED Accredited Professional as well as a certified general contractor in the state of Florida.

Miami Dade Chamber of Commerce 10th Annual Holiday Gala

The evening of December 5th was nothing short of magical! The stars came out with the likes of dynamic jazz songstress Carole Ann Taylor and the Old Skool Gang delivering a night to remember. Many guests filled the beautiful ballroom at Jungle Island to celebrate the South Florida Multicultural Business Community. The 10th Annual Holiday Gala was in full swing, and it didn’t disappoint. It was awe inspiring to see so many people come together demonstrating a selfless commitment to the South Florida Community.

5th Annual College and Career Expo

On Thursday, October 29, 2015, DSC participated in the 5th Annual College & Career Expo presented by the 100 Black Men of South Florida and Miami Dade County Public Schools. The expo was a great opportunity to introduce students to careers in construction management as well as to recruit students for DSC’s internship program.

Meet and Greet FLL - Hollywood International Airport Southwest Airlines Terminal One

On Wednesday, October 28, 2015 DSC in conjunction with Hunt and Moss held a meet and greet outreach meeting for prime contractors and County Business Enterprises (CBEs) at the Broward County Main Library. This $239 million project involves the modernization and expansion of Terminal One at Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport.

Palm Beach Partners Business Matchmaker 2015 Corporate Partner of the Year Award

The Palm Beach Partners is a coalition of City, County, State and non-profit agencies aligned to maximize economic development opportunities for small businesses throughout the South Florida region. The Business Matchmaker Conference & Expo was a great opportunity for Small and Minority/Women Business Entrepreneurs, representatives from government agencies and private sector organizations to network and build stronger business relationships. D. Stephenson Construction was a proud sponsor at this years 9th annual event.

Broward College Achieves LEED Gold
August 17, 2015
Broward College’s new state-of-the-art health sciences simulation center, constructed by DSC, recently earned LEED Gold Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. Originally slated for LEED Silver, the school exceeded the College’s expectations by incorporating numerous sustainable features including: solar shading, water efficient plumbing fixtures, LED lighting, recycled materials, low VOC materials, daylighting, EMS controls for lighting and thermal comfort, and much more. Congratulations to the project team including Jeff Haymond, Sandy Franklin and everyone else that supported the project in the field and in the office.

Broward Education Foundation Honors Dwight & Dinah

Dwight and Dinah were honored with the Community Dreamcatcher Award by the Broward Education Foundation at the foundation’s annual Black & White Gala. The Stephensons were recognized for their business leadership, support of public education and commitment to the Broward community. Bill Ellis sits on the Board of Directors for the Broward Education Foundation along with Shari Francis, wife of DSC teammate Stan Francis.

Business Development Happenings

Sun Life Stadium Clubs – Next time you step into one of the clubs at Sun Life Stadium, you just might be entering one of the three clubs DSC will be building for the Miami Dolphins over the next four month. After a very short and competitive selection process, DSC was selected to build the East, West and much larger North clubs at Sun Life Stadium. Each club will be totally new and include extensive high end woodwork. The projects must be completed prior to the start of the preseason in August.

Pompano Beach CRA Assigned DSC 1st Projects – The Pompano Beach CRA recently assigned DSC its first two projects under its continuing service contract for streetscape improvement. Both projects involve the construction of parking lots to improve access to businesses located within the Pompano Beach CRA.

DSC is constructing a new arena for Florida Memorial University which will serve as the home for their basketball team and other sports and recreation programs for the school and the community. The project is just now coming out of the ground and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2015.

As part of Riviera Beach’s redevelopment of its marina area, DSC is working as part of a joint venture team to rebuild an event center, park, promenade and other improvements. The City’s investment is intended to spur $300 million in private development in the area including restaurants, hotels, shops and more. The current phase of the work is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2015.

DSC is part of the Hunt/Moss team which was selected as the construction managers for the $295 million Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport Terminal 1 Modernization Program (FLMP). The program scope includes a new five-gate concourse, a 10-12 lane centralized security screening checkpoint and new concessions area for Terminal 1.
