Community Committment

Community Involvement

Dwight’s reputation for leadership on and off the field is legendary and to this day he continues serving as a community mentor. A strong believer in education, Dwight knows the importance of providing the necessary tools to learn, especially for children in need. With that in mind, he sought to close the digital divide and created Dwight’s Computers for Kids Program in 1997 to ensure that every child has a computer to assist in their education. Companies are asked to donate their used computers, which are then refurbished and given to needy children in underserved communities.

Through the Dwight Stephenson Foundation co-founded with his wife, Dinah Stephenson, in 2007 Dwight accomplished his longtime goal of establishing a foundation in his name dedicated to serving the South Florida community. The Foundation combines sports and business connections to raise awareness and generate increased funding for charities that provide services supporting the needs of area children and families.

Over the years Dwight has received many honors and awards for his community service, including football’s prestigious Walter Camp Man of the Year Award and the Walter Payton/NFL Man of the Year Award. In 2008 Dwight was the recipient of the Diversity Award from the Urban League of Broward County.

Taking inspiration from Dwight and Dinah’s values and leadership example, the D. Stephenson Construction team is active in the community through the foundation and other community organizations.
